Bay St. George Extended Senior’s Transportation (BEST)

The Bay St George Extended Seniors Transportation (BEST) is an Age Friendly Community Initiative committed to providing appropriate and affordable transportation to seniors over sixty years of age. There is also wheelchair accessibility for people ages twenty-five and over. This will be accomplished through fund raising by the Board of Directors and through the valuable time offered by community minded volunteers.

If you are interested in donating time to help others than please contact us. Donating this kind of time from dedicated volunteers will enrich our communities as we model respect and provide support to the oldest members of our population. We hope to maximize the generous offer of your time and that you will feel the personal satisfaction of a job well done.

The plan is to have enough volunteers in each category to ensure that a person will only be asked to participate for a maximum of one day per month. You may, if you wish, volunteer to participate more often. The three categories of volunteers needed and a basic outline of the duties of each are listed below.

Directors

Bay St. George Extended Senior’s Transportation (BEST) is a volunteer run organization. Our volunteer base is made up of passionate and committed members who work to ensure the delivery of high quality service.

Chairman

Michael McCann

I am involved because of my Dad who passed away in long term care. Transportation was always a challenge, too expensive and/or none available. He always said he wished there was a service that was for people like him who wanted to get out and not have to break the bank to do it.

It is great to travel on the bus with the passengers and share the experience with them; driving through the beautiful communities and knowing travel is affordable, enjoyable, and safe. I feel good as a volunteer knowing that people in communities benefit from the service.

Treasurer/Assistant Coordinator

Gary Jesso

I was asked to represent the legion at a presentation about setting up the BEST Bus. After the meeting, I offered my help.

I am involved because I understand some of the issues that seniors face every day in long-term care visiting my husband's family and my own.

Drivers Coordinator

Phil Delabays

I became part of Best because I support their mission and want to give back to my community. Providing safe transportation for our elders is important for their independence and overall quality of life. I look forward to being part of this and getting to meet and work with new people along the way.

I had time on my hands and spent a lot of time at home. So answering a phone sounds like something I could do. I saw an invitation on Facebook where they were looking for volunteers.

I joined the Best Bus because I found a group whose focus was on our seniors who needed transportation. So happy to be a member.
